This is st. Isidore of Seville, Archbishop of Spain, (Latin: Isidorus Hispalensis; c. 560 – 4 April 636). He is widely regarded as “the last scholar of the ancient world”. Isidore was involved in the conversion of the Arian Visigothic kings to Catholicism. He is famed for his Etymologiae, an encyclopedia that assembled extracts of many books from classical antiquity that would have otherwise been lost. He also invented the period (full stop), comma, and colon punctuation. St. Isidore is mentioned among theologians and Doctors of the Church in Dante’s Paradise.
He is a patron saint for the Internet, computer technicians and administrators, and the software developers. Feast 4 April. This icon now protects a software engineer in Bulgaria, Miroslav, who works for the Air traffic control administration.
